james holmes. there will likely be court appearances, charges, and perhaps a trial. it will be holmes who makes headlines. a name you'll hear over and over. and usually it is the suspected killer that gets most of the attention. eric harris and dylanical icalk. anders behring breivik. today is the one-year anniversary of that mass killing. but names we should be hearing are those of the victims. we want to start this morning remembering those who lost their lives friday morning as told by the people they left behind. >> not surprising to me that his first thought would be her. that's what a man does. he protects his loved ones. i'm very proud of him. we're going to miss him. >> just a great kid. talented kid. very talented. a lot of gifts. made people laugh. always made people smile. gentle giant was the way we looked at him. >> the sweetest smile you've ever seen. and she got -- she got prettier as she grew older. in a blink of an eye, something happens, and -- completely changes everyone's life forever. >> she was a great kid. she was just finding herself. would never harm anybody.

holmes' apartment, and some of the evacuated neighbors were actually allowed to return last night. but not before police carefully detonated some explosives. one neighbor said she nearly entered the apartment early friday morning when loud techno music started blaring. she tried yelling it holmes and noticed the door was unlocked but didn't open it. that may have saved kristin fonzie's life. she now knows the music was set to play while the suspected gunman was at the theater. police say had she entered the apartment she likely would have died. jim spellman is at the apartment complex where holmes lives this morning. you have new information on the investigation. i understand they questioned somebody else. >> reporter: that's right. overnight, multiple reports surfaced that there may be a potential second suspect in this case. aurora police wanted to knock that down pretty quick. they put out a statement saying, yes, they interviewed somebody they described as an associate of james holmes, the accused shooter in this case. but at this point, they have no reason to believe that this man

it comes from the adult sex sykes adult friend finder. police believe this is james holmes, the suspect in the shooting. but investigators haven't confirmed the picture just yet. sources did say holmes dyed his hair red before the attack. police are waiting to get inside the apartment. jim spellman is at the theater. what was the scene like there overnight? >> well, last night, gary, people started forming this makeshift vigil with dozens of candles. and it's still burning there tonight. nobody is there now but it's just one of those organic vigil sites that pop up. they are blank a community-wide vigil. ever since columbine this community has been protective almost of that legacy. and i think this ties into it. people will use it as a healing opportunity and a chance to really show solidarity. on an individual basis, today they have grief counseling at a pair of high schools to help people process the trauma. >> jim, i feel so bad fort families of those who lost loved ones. the bodies were in the theater for so long and weren't given the exact word if it was their laughed ones.

james holmes' psychiatrist, dr. lynn fenton. she is the head of student medical health services at the university of colorado's aurora campus. and according to holmes' attorney, mr. holmes was a psychiatric patient of dr. fenton and his communications with her are protected. that attorney is now trying to get ahold of that package and the contents of which, according to cbs news, supposedly describe how holmes would kill people. the information is privileged, according to holmes' attorney, confidential and should not be in the hands of the police. > now, i want to tell you this, on monday, school officials, including the campus police chief did answer some questions. and i want you to specifically listen to this exchange i had with the police chief regarding holmes' interaction with the campus security. >> did your department or any of your officers have any interaction with this student whatsoever? >> we -- i don't have any information on him at all. >> did you do a records check on him? >> yes. and as you already know, i think there was a traffic ticket from aurora. that's it for

talking about tom cruise and katie holmes split. she hasn't said what led to the decision to walk away from tom cruise. some say it may have had to do with cruise's relidge, scientology. it's brought more attention to the church and it's practices. we are focusing on the religion, the beliefs and misconceptions. we wanted to clear it up. the religion was started by author l. ron hubbard and went from there. i spoke with belief blog and asked when scientology got approval from the federal government. >> scientology is a relatively new religion, the first church opened up in los angeles in 1954. it helps explain the long affiliation with hollywood and celebrities. now, for a long time, the church fought to get government recognition in this country to get tax exempt status like other religious organizations and churches in this country enjoy. it took a long time to do so. they filed a lot of lawsuits against the irs to make it happen. they granted that status in 1993. >> when you talk about the belief, what is at the core of scientology? >> scientology is really meant as a kind of n
